Ronda and B.B. are going to the next big thing.
If that means a fight in the Octagon or a fight against a UFC star, they’re not going to miss it.
Ronda’s title reign will be her last, and she’s going to have to get past Penn to do it.
She’s the first female fighter to do that.
“B.J., I feel like, is the next great thing.
He’s the next biggest thing, the next best, the best at his craft,” Ronda said in her pre-fight press conference.
“He’s going into his 30s, and he’s been in the sport for 17 years, and you know, he’s had so much success, and the people that are close to him, they’ve been so proud of him, and they want to keep him around.
So that’s the kind of thing that I’m going to do.
And if I’m gonna do it, I’m not going be shy about it.”
Rousey’s not ready to jump in a fight with a champion.
“She’s not done.
I think we all know that, but I think the biggest thing for her is, I have a great respect for the work that B.A. did,” she said.
“That’s something I’ve been doing my whole life.
I’ve had a long career.
I have the best of both worlds.
I don’t have the other guy’s business, but it’s my job to go out there and compete, to prove that I belong in the division that I am in.
That’s something that I believe in.
And the fact that B,B.B., and BJJ are going down in the rankings, that’s something for me to prove to myself, too.”
And I believe that I do belong in there.
She said she’s looking forward to working with her new training partners, and said she doesn’t feel like the fight against Penn is something she can’t do.
“I feel like B.R., for the first time in my life, I dont feel like I can do anything against her, so I don`t feel it is a fight that I can’t win,” Rousey said.
For now, it’s a fight of attrition.
Penn, who won his second straight UFC title in March, has lost three straight fights, but he said that’s not a reflection on him.
“It is not a problem.
Its the way I train.
Ive got the most talent on this planet, and I just have to put it in the right place, and thats what Im going to try to do,” Penn said.
