This is an edited transcript of the video interview.
I am so excited that you’re here.
I can’t believe it’s been eight years since I wrote my first post.
So this was a big moment for me.
I had no idea how important this would be to you, or the readership of this site, but thank you for being a part of my journey.
I would like to tell you about the origin of this story.
I remember the first time I saw my twin xl beds.
My mother, who is a nurse practitioner, and my father, a dentist, came to visit, and we were talking about how we would have to clean these two beds and we had to do it on a Sunday morning, and then I remember thinking, “I can’t wait to do this.”
I was very young and I was in the hospital.
So my father and I were very concerned about the bed bugs.
And I remember, you know, I just had to go, “You know what?
I’ll go.”
I got the sheets out and put them on, and I just kind of went to the bathroom, and there’s bed bugs everywhere.
I didn’t know what to do.
I tried washing them, but I couldn’t even touch them.
I mean, they just sort of crawled on the sheets, and it was really gross.
So I put the sheets back on and just cleaned them up.
And then I went to bed and it went on like that for about a week.
So that’s when I started thinking about bed bugs and the bed bug-control measures that were put in place, and that’s what made me realize that I really, really didn’t want to have bed bugs in my home.
I wanted to get rid of them.
And so the next step was, as I was washing them and washing them again and again, and just washing the sheets over and over, I started to realize that they were just sitting there in the sheets.
I was really, I mean I was disgusted by that.
I just couldn’t go to bed without seeing something on my sheets, I had to be very careful.
I actually got so frustrated that I started making them myself, and the only thing I knew how to do was use bleach and bleach and water.
And once I was doing it, I could just get rid and clean up, and they just crawled back on.
I thought, “Oh my God, that’s disgusting.
I don’t want bed bugs on my bed.
I want bedbugs off my bed.”
So I took the sheets off the bed, and put my feet up and put on my socks and I got rid of it.
And this is the first step in my journey, right?
This was a huge milestone for me, and also a huge accomplishment for the team.
I’ve never been more proud of this blog, this team, or anyone involved in the research.
I know it’s not something that you could imagine having done.
And it was actually quite fun.
I started this blog just to talk about the research, but after doing that, I wanted this to be something that I would be able to show the world, because I knew that there were a lot of people who would want to see it.
So, this was really a really exciting journey.
But now that I’m doing it in the real world, I can share it with everyone, so I wanted that to be a really, very tangible thing.
So thanks to all of you for joining us on this journey, and for reading this and sharing it.
