Best Buy’s first new home in years in Washington is in the form of a swing bed frame.
It will be built in the U.S. and will be part of the company’s new $1.6 billion “floating home” initiative.
The $1,700-a-month swing bed, a full-size bed that folds down into the bed frame, will be available at the company for the first time in 2018.
The company said in a statement that the swing bed is part of its $1 billion initiative to “create an affordable and versatile home for the middle class.”
The company is the first U.N. member to build a swing-based home, according to The Associated Press.
The home is part in the company plan to “bring down costs for homeowners and families while increasing opportunities for people who want to live in cities with the freedom and opportunities of a townhouse or two.”
The new swing bed will be in the shape of an old-fashioned, upright box.
It has an open floor plan and a bed that extends beyond the frame.
“We’ve been building homes that have been more than just functional, they have been livable,” Matti Valkenburg, vice president of corporate communications for Best Buy said in the statement.
“We’re excited to be launching this new platform.”
The home will be made of the same material used in the frames for furniture and other products.
Best Buy has been building new homes and apartments in its Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles headquarters for the last year.
It is building a large number of new home construction projects.
Earlier this year, Best Buy announced plans to add 500 new homes in the next five years, according a company release.
This week, Best Buys said it plans to build more than 2,500 homes in 2020.
