Toddlers will have their own car bed soon, and it will be made from the most popular Lego product ever, white Lego.
“It’s the white Lego, it’s the same exact color,” said Jason Leech, who manages the company that makes the white car bed.
“It has a lot of the same basic functionality.”
It all started in December.
It’s not quite as exciting as you think it is, Leech said.
He had a few friends that he had to pick up a few pieces to make his own bed.
He and his wife bought a couple of pieces from a local LEGO store.
“We picked up the two white Lego pieces,” Leech told CBC News.
“We used a few other pieces to get the overall shape.”
It was a little challenging, he said, but it was a lot easier than building the entire bed.
“You can build a car bed out of Lego and still have a good product, but if you’re doing it on your own you’re going to have to cut your own legs and cut out the legs for the seat,” he said.
There are many options, but Leech and his family had to choose one that would work for their toddler.
They made a couple different sizes of beds, but the bed they ended up building was much too big.
“There’s a lot more leg room and that’s what we wanted,” he explained.
The company also had to look into making the bed smaller and make it more secure.
“I just wanted to make sure that it wasn’t going to be too big,” Leeches said.
“But I knew that we wanted to do something that could be made in a reasonable amount of time,” he added.
The bed was made in two pieces.
The front piece is where the arms, legs and head are.
There is also a shelf in the back, so you can put things on there.
The top and bottom pieces were glued together.
“That’s where the head and the arms come in,” Leeshe said.
The arms can be lifted up for storage, but they also make a nice place to put a chair or something to sit on.
“So you can fold the legs back and put it in there,” Leeson said.
“And you can get it up for sitting on, so it can be put on the shelf or put it on the bed.
It can be raised up and down, it can fold down and it can come up.”
The whole bed is 3D printed, so there is no glue.
It has been printed on a laser printer, which is why it’s not just a bunch of Lego bricks.
“This is the first time that we’ve actually made a bed from scratch, so that was a real surprise,” Leechers said.
He has no plans to use the car bed for anything else.
He’s hoping it can one day be used to transport kids.
“A lot of families, particularly young families, that have young children, they can get their kids out of the car and just get them out of there,” he told CBC.
“If you want to go to the park and you want a picnic or you want your kid to go somewhere with them and it’s really cold, and you can’t get your kid out of your car, you might want to just put a little cooler in the car, so they can just be outside and enjoy the cold.”
